Learning on the Run: My first project with FiveCore Media

I missed my two days of training because I was busy with another job on campus. Big mistake, but there really was nothing I could do about it. Everybody was ahead of me and I needed to attempt to dive right in with my limited knowledge specifically about the equipment we are using here at the company. My previous work reflects that I apparently do have a good eye for film and such, but getting into a new system or order of things can always cause a bit of nudge at first.

Anyway, I was excited, I still am. I really do love my job. I’m doing what I love and I’m learning important skills that I need for my future career, so I wasn’t afraid to ask questions and make a fool of myself every once in a while. Working a DSLR at this professional level requires a solid understanding of what to use and when to use it, a handful of options and settings that I did not yet have the proper training for at this early stage in my college career, but I seem to be doing OK.

My first experience on the job was working with the Goshen College Faith Stories which we finished. The video is going to be part of a set of videos that will go to all the Mennonite high schools across the country advertising Goshen College along with other colleges’ videos such as Hesston, Bluffton, Bethel, and Eastern Mennonite University.

Working on the video was a lot of fun. We went off campus to get some shots of the Post (as seen in the video). We got to use some of our amazing new equipment such as the dolly, slider, LED lights, and camera rig. I consider myself very fortunate to work at FiveCore Media. I learn new things everyday.
